The Shakers
The shakers were the largest and best known american utopian sect in the 19th Century. The Shakers were well known for their unusual lifestyle, for the excellence and simplicity of their work and their devotion to the dancer after which their are named. For over 200 years the Shakers followed their own unique lifestyle based on principles of equality and sharing. They made their own forniture primarily in series such as thosen of chairs, rocking chairs etc. These metods of production were not only efficent bu also helped to maintain uniformity the primary principle of the shakers philosofy.
